What are dentures?
Dentures are a tooth replacement option we provide for our patients who have lost multiple teeth. Whether you have lost just a few teeth or all of your teeth, we are certain to have the solution you need to return your smile to optimal health, function, and beauty. We offer two main kinds of dentures at Westchester Family Dentistry: complete dentures and partial dentures.
What are complete dentures?
Also called full dentures, complete dentures are used to replace a full arch of teeth. Depending on your specific dental needs, complete dentures can be used to restore the upper arch, lower arch, or both arches. The denture is made up of artificial teeth set into a gum-colored base, which sits on the gums.
What are partial dentures?
Partial dentures are used to replace several missing teeth when some natural teeth still remain. The partial denture fills in the space left by the missing teeth, using clasps or a thin framework to hold itself in place.

What are implant-retained dentures?
Implant-retained dentures are full or partial dentures that utilize strategically placed dental implants to help anchor the denture in place. Dental implants provide a more secure, more comfortable and better functioning denture. Some of the benefits of dental implants to denture wearers are as follows:
- Reduction/elimination of the need for denture glue removal of metal clasps to hold dentures in place (as used in partial dentures) resulting in a more esthetic denture
- Less rubbing/irritation caused by the dentures
- Improved chewing ability and or improved ability to taste food dentures stay in place
- Improved confidence, no fear of denture slipping or falling out during eating/speaking
